Softball Takes Two
From Meredith
FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College officially dedicated its new softball
field as Franklin Community Bank Field March 26, as the Panthers
picked up a non-conference sweep of Meredith College. Ferrum
won the opening game 9-1 and followed with an 8-0 shutout, both
games shortened to five innings due to the 8-run rule.

In the first game,
freshman second baseman Kelly Riffle (Laytonsville,
Md./Gaithersburg) went 3-3 with a double, two runs and an
RBI.
Senior Laura Terry (Willis
Wharf, Va./Northampton) pitched a complete game, allowing
four hits over five innings. She struck out three and walked
none of the 19 batters she faced.
In the second game,
sophomore shortstop Lauren Rizzo (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth's) went 3-3
with a double, two RBI and a run.
Senior Kim Cox (Gladys,
Va./William Campbell) pitched a complete game no-hitter
shutout. Cox struck out three batters and allowed just
one of the 15 batters she faced to reach base on a walk.
Ferrum (10-16) returns to action March
28 with a USA South Athletic
Conference doubleheader at home against Christopher Newport
University. Action begins at 3 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank
