Garner Named Rookie of the Week

FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College freshman pitcher Lincoln Garner (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) has been named Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference for his play in last week's 11-0 win over Methodist University.

In the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24, Garner had 11 strikeouts, allowed just four hits and walked three to help Ferrum open USA South play.  In eight innings of work, he faced 30 batters, eight of which reached base.

Garner is Ferrum's lone Player of the Week selection this week.  Also nominated for Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week was Ian Lenda of Christopher Newport University. 

Ferrum is currently 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the USA South.  The Panthers play next on Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Roanoke College in Salem at 2 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
