Baseball Splits with
Methodist
FERRUM, Va. - The Ferrum College baseball team opened USA
South Athletic Conference action this afternoon by splitting
a doubleheader with
Methodist University. The Panthers opened the day with an 11-0
rout of the Monarchs, before falling 9-2 in the nightcap.
Game #1: Ferrum 11, Methodist 0
Game #2: Methodist 9, Ferrum 2
In the first game, freshman pitcher Lincoln Garner (Ferrum,
Va./Franklin County) pitched eight near flawless innings,
allowing just four hits, walking three, and striking out 11 batters.
Senior third baseman Brett Thomas (Danville, Va./George
Washington) went 3-5 with a solo home run in the first inning,
three RBI, three runs, and a stolen base. Freshman designated
hitter Justin Franklin (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox County)
went 3-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs.
In the nightcap, junior catcher Nick Baker (Vinton, Va./William
Byrd) went 2-3 with a double. Ferrum is now 3-4 overall
and 1-1 in USA South play. The Panthers return to action
Wednesday, February 28, when they play at Roanoke College in Salem
at 2 p.m.
