Panther Women Earn All-Conference
Wright Named Rookie of the Year, Harvey Coach of the Year

FERRUM, Va.  --  The Ferrum College women's basketball team had a number of players earn honors as the USA South Athletic Conference announced its 2007 Women's Basketball All-Conference team.

Among the honors for the Panther women were Rookie of the Year honors for freshman forward Tonya Wright (Bland, Va./Bland County) and Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach Bryan Harvey.

Wright was the leading vote-getter for Rookie of the Year, averaging 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.  Wright was named to the All-Conference honorable mention team.

Harvey led Ferrum to a 19-6 overall record, 12-2 against USA South opponents to win the league's regular season title and earn the top seed at the 2007 USA South Tournament.

Junior center Ali Davenport (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels) was named to the All-Conference first team, while senior guards Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) and Quanita Bennett (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian) were named to the second team.

Davenport is averaging 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds for Ferrum this year.  She had four double-doubles this season.  Bennett averaged 10.2 points for the Panthers.

Ferrum is currently 20-6 after defeating North Carolina Wesleyan College 81-50 in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament Feb. 20 at home.

The top-seeded Panthers will face #4 Shenandoah in the semifinal round Friday at 2 p.m.  The semifinals and finals are being hosted at Christopher Newport.
