Panthers Men Advance in USA South Tourney with Win Over Methodist
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team
defeated Methodist University 77-71 in tonight's USA South
Tournament quarterfinal round game. The Panthers are the
tournament's #5 seed, upsetting the #4 Monarchs on the road.

Junior center Cedric Jones (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) had a
game-high 20 points to lead the Panthers to the win. Jones
added 13 rebounds, helping Ferrum out-rebound Methodist 44-42.
Junior forward Jon Godsey (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) added 16
points and eight rebounds for Ferrum, while freshman guard
Jerrell
Wade (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) had 10 points and five assists.
Ferrum (12-14) led 29-21 at halftime and held on after having been
swept by Methodist in the home-and-away USA South series this
season.
Methodist (11-14) was led tonight by Antwin Shuford's 15-point,
15-rebound performance. Dragan Radmanovic, A.B. Lehman, and
Bryan Pittman had 11 points each for the Monarchs.
In other USA South Tournament quarterfinal action, #2 Greensboro
College defeated #7 Shenandoah University 86-75 and #6 North
Carolina Wesleyan College upset #3 Christopher Newport University
71-69.
The semifinals and championship will be played at Christopher
Newport University in Newport News Friday and Saturday, February
23-24. Ferrum will face top seed Averett University in one
semifinal, while Greensboro and N.C. Wesleyan will play in the
other. The championship is set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
