USA South Champions!
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Ferrum College women's basketball
team picked up a 68-56 win this afternoon on the road over Peace
College, wrapping up the 2007 USA South Athletic Conference women's
basketball title in
the process.

Junior center
Ali
Davenport (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels) led the way for Ferrum with
18 points and 14 rebounds, both game-highs. Freshman forward Tonya
Wright (Bland, Va./Bland County) had 15 points, all in the
second half.
Freshman guard
Miranda
Carrasco (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) had 11 points, while
sophomore guard
Caprice Laws (Covington, Va./Covington) had 10 assists.
Senior guard
Aline Alzime
(Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) had nine points to go with 12
rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Senior guard
Shanita
Bennett (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian) had 11 rebounds
and five points.
With the win, Ferrum (19-6, 12-2 USA South) earns the top seed in
next week's USA South Tournament. Peace (9-16, 3-11) was
led by LeAnne Horne's 14 points. Amanda Cross had 12 points,
while Brittany Lynn had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Pacers.
The USA South Tournament first round games will be played on the
campuses of the higher seeds. Ferrum will host #8 North
Carolina Wesleyan College Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The complete tournament

2007 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament
The Panthers are led by second-year Head Coach Bryan Harvey.
Ferrum previously won the league title in 2003, then known as the
Dixie Conference. The Panthers won the Dixie's post-season
tournament in 1995, making the school's first ever visit to the NCAA
Division III playoffs that season. The Panthers were league
tournament runner-up in 1992 and 2005.
