FERRUM, Va.  --  Senior guard Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) has been named Women's Basketball Player of the Week and freshman guard Jerrell Wade (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) has been named Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference.

Alzime helped Ferrum 2-0 last week, averaging 23.5 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Ferrum defeated Emory & Henry College 93-59 Nov. 28 at home and defeated Mary Baldwin College 90-76 Nov. 3-0 on the road.  Both games were non-conference affairs.

In the win over Emory & Henry, Alzime had a game-high 29 points to go with six rebounds and five steals.  She then had 18 points against Mary Baldwin.  Also nominated for the award were Nikki Rowland of Christopher Newport University, Stephanie Harrold of Shenandoah University, Lawanda Scott of North Carolina Wesleyan College, and Stacy Williams of Methodist College.

Wade averaged 8.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds in an 0-2 week for the Panthers.  In a 73-67 loss to Eastern Mennonite University Nov. 27 at home, Wade totaled 13 points, a game-high five steals and three assists.  In a 70-53 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Gardner-Webb University Nov. 29 on the road, Wade contributed three points, four rebounds, one steal and had a game-high six assists.

This is Wade's second such honor this season.  He was named the USA South Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week after a 25-point career debut Nov. 17, helping Ferrum open the season with a  73-52 win at home over Huntingdon College in the first round of the 2006 USA South-Great South Tip-Off Classic.  Wade then registered 10 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 70-64 win over Piedmont College the next day.  For his efforts, Wade earned a spot on the event's All-Tournament team.
