Alzime, Wade Nab Player of the Week Laurels from
USA South
FERRUM, Va. -- Senior guard
Aline Alzime
(Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) has been named Women's Basketball
Player of the Week and freshman guard
Jerrell Wade
(Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) has been named Men's Basketball
Rookie of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference.
Alzime helped Ferrum 2-0 last week, averaging 23.5 points, five
rebounds, and three steals. Ferrum defeated Emory & Henry
College 93-59 Nov. 28 at home and defeated Mary Baldwin College
90-76 Nov. 3-0 on the road. Both games were non-conference
affairs.
In the win over Emory & Henry, Alzime had a game-high 29 points to
go with six rebounds and five steals. She then had 18 points
against Mary Baldwin. Also nominated for the award were Nikki
Rowland of Christopher Newport University, Stephanie Harrold of
Shenandoah University, Lawanda Scott of North Carolina Wesleyan
College, and Stacy Williams of Methodist College.
Wade averaged 8.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds
in an 0-2 week for the Panthers. In a 73-67 loss to Eastern
Mennonite University Nov. 27 at home, Wade totaled 13 points, a
game-high five steals and three assists. In a 70-53 loss to
NCAA Division I opponent Gardner-Webb University Nov. 29 on the
road, Wade contributed three points, four rebounds, one steal and
had a game-high six assists.
This is Wade's second such honor this season. He was named the
USA South Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week after a 25-point
career debut Nov. 17, helping Ferrum open the season with a 73-52
win at home over Huntingdon College in the first round of the 2006
USA South-Great South Tip-Off Classic. Wade then registered 10
points, five rebounds and four assists in a 70-64 win over Piedmont
College the next day. For his efforts, Wade earned a spot on the
event's All-Tournament team.
Ferrum's women are currently 6-2 under second-year Head Coach Bryan Harvey.
The Panthers will be back in action Dec. 7 at Bridgewater College,
the #18-ranked team in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association
poll.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Bridgewater, Virginia.
Ferrum's men are currently 3-3 under second-year Head Coach Bill
Tharp. The Panthers are back in action tonight at
non-conference opponent Southern Virginia University. Tip-off
