Men's Basketball Closes with
Two Wins in New York
FERRUM, Va. --
The Ferrum College men's basketball team picked up a pair of wins in
this week's trip to New York Dec. 19-20. The Panthers
beat Elmira College Dec. 19 and SUNY Maritime Dec. 20.
Coach Bill Tharp's squad also made a surprise visit on the CBS Early
Show Dec. 20, and was welcomed by Weather Anchor David Price.
The team's players coaches, and managers all were panned by a few
times before Price welcomed the team to the show.
The Panthers opened the trip with a 72-57 win over Elmira.
Senior guard
Rob Fuller
(Timberlake, N.C./Person) led all scorers with 20 points and had
a game-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman guard
Jerrell Wade (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) had 17 points on
7-for-9 shooting from the floor. Sophomore guard
Wayne Ford
(Lynchburg, Va./Heritage) had 13 points and junior forward
Jon Godsey (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) had 12 points.
The Panthers led 36-30 at halftime, and out-rebounded Elmira 47-35.

Ferrum then got 25 points from junior
Cedric Jones
(Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass), who shot 10-of-12 from the floor
and 5-0f-6 from the free throw line. Senior
Keith Harris
(Ringgold, Va./Dan River) had 20 points and five rebounds for
the Panthers. Fuller chipped in 14 points, playing 34 minutes.

Ferrum returns to action Jan. 3-4, participating in the Jimmy V
Classic at Roanoke College. Tharp's team will face Drew
(NJ) University Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. The Panthers will then play either
host Roanoke or Chestnut Hill (PA) College Jan. 4. The
consolation game is set for 3 p.m., with the title game to follow at
