Davenport (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels) and freshman forward
Tonya Wright
(Bland, Va./Bland County) have been honored by the USA South
Athletic Conference as Women's Basketball Player of the Week and
Rookie of the Week, respectively.
In three games last week, Davenport averaged 19 points and 6.7
rebounds per game. This is the first Player of the Week honor
for Davenport this season. She opened the week Nov. 21 with a
13-point performance in an 84-82 overtime win over Roanoke College
on the road.
Davenport then had a career high 33 points in an 83-73 win over
Guilford College Nov. 25 at the Cross Creek/Innkeeper Turkey
Shootout hosted by Methodist College. For her efforts,
Davenport was named to the All-Tournament team with 44 points and 13
rebounds in the two-day event.
Wright averaged 12 points and 4.7 rebounds in three games last week.
This is her first Rookie of the Week honor. She had 18 points
and six rebounds in the win over Guilford. Wright added nine
points in a 80-69 loss to Piedmont Nov. 26, and nine points in the
OT win over Roanoke.
Ferrum is currently 4-2 under second-year Head Coach Bryan Harvey.
The Panthers will be back in action tonight at Mary Baldwin College.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Staunton, Va.
