Football Players Earn All-Conference
Three Panthers Earn First-Team Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  -- Five Ferrum College football players have earned All-Conference honors from the USA South Athletic Conference, including three players named to the first team.

2006 USA South All-Conference Football Team

Senior TE Chris Silk (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) earned his fourth consecutive All-Conference first team honor.  Silk made 11 receptions for 242 yards and four touchdowns this season.  Silk closed out his career with 47 career receptions for 1060 yards and 24 touchdowns.

Silk holds school records for career touchdowns and career yards per reception (22.6 yds/rec).  Silk scored 144 points over his four-year career with the Panther gridiron program.

Senior OL Pete Bowyer (Goode, Va./Jefferson Forest) made the All-Conference first team.  Bowyer is a repeat selection, having made the first team a year ago as well.

Senior FB Jacob Hawkins (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) also earned a spot on the All-Conference first team.  Hawkins rushed for 540 yards and four touchdowns this season.  He closed out his career with 1481 career rushing yards and nine touchdowns.  Hawkins was an All-Conference second team honoree in 2005. 

Earning spots on the All-Conference honorable mention team were senior DL David Epperly (Salem, Va./Salem) and junior DL Shaun Green (Paisley, Fla./Umatilla).

Offensive Player of the Year honors went to Cedric Townsend of North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Teron Bush, also of North Carolina Wesleyan, was the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Averett University's Jermaine Moore is the defensive Player of the Year, while Greensboro College's Brick Crowder is the Defensive Rookie of the Year.  CNU's Matt Kelchner earned Coach of the Year honors.

Ferrum closed out the 2006 season at 2-7 overall and finished in a three-way tie for fifth in the USA South with a 2-5 record against league opponents.  The Panthers graduated 16 seniors this season.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
