FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College junior forward
Jon Godsey (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) has been named USA
South Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, and freshman guard
Ashley Norton
(Martinsville, Va./Magna Vista) has been named Women's
Basketball Rookie of the Week. Each player earns the award for
the first time this season.
Godsey helped the Ferrum men go 2-0 last week against USA South
teams, averaging a double-double of 16 points and 13.5 rebounds to
go with 3.0 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.
In a 75-71 win over Shenandoah University Jan. 23 on the road,
Godsey had 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He also
contributed four assists, three blocks and two steals in the win.
In an 83-79 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College Jan. 28 at
home, Godsey again tallied a double-double with 19 points and 16
rebounds.
Also nominated for Men's Player of the Week were Lenny Hall of N.C.
Wesleyan, Korey Lewis of Christopher Newport University, Shaun
Hagwood of Averett University, Lynn Bright of Greensboro College,
and Robert Lee of Methodist University.
Norton tied the school record for
single game assists with 14 in a 97-63 win over N.C. Wesleyan Jan.
28 at home. She helped the Panthers to a 3-0 record last
week, all against USA South competition. Norton averaged 10.7
points, 7.0 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game during the
week.
In a 91-80 win over Shenandoah Jan. 23 on the road, Norton scored a
game-high 19 points, while adding three rebounds, three assists,
three steals and one block.
Now halfway through the regular season, Ferrum remains in a tie with
Greensboro atop the USA South women's basketball standings at 6-1 in
league play.
The Panthers host Averett University in a USA South doubleheader
Wednesday, January 31. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., with
