Ferrum Men, Women Beat Greensboro

FERRUM, Va. -- The
Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams posted a USA South
Athletic Conference sweep of Greensboro College tonight, the women
winning 65-61 and the men taking the nightcap 79-68.

In the women's game, Ferrum got off to a slow start and trailed by
18 at halftime, 36-18. Coach Bryan Harvey's team then opened
the second half with a 32-4 run to take a 50-40 lead and never
trailed from there.
Senior guard
Quanita
Bennett (Virginia beach, Va./Coastal Christian) poured in 18
points as the Panthers stayed perfect in league action at 3-0.
Bennett has led Ferrum in scoring three straight games.
Junior center
Ali
Davenport (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels) had a double-double with 14 points and
14
rebounds, while senior guard
Aline Alzime
(Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Greensboro (8-5, 2-1 USA South) was led by Staci Humphrey's 23
points on 9-of-15 shooting. She was one of four Pride that
scored in double figures. Katie Freedom had 11 points and 11
rebounds, while Jamie Mitsinger and Bobbie Barnes each had 10
points.
Ferrum (10-4, 3-0 USA South) out-rebounded Greensboro 60-49.
Greensboro is the two-time defending USA South Tournament champ,
earning bids to the past two NCAA Division III Tournaments.
In the nightcap, Ferrum's men got off to a good start, leading by as many
as 14 in the first half. Coach Bill Tharp's team led 36-26 at
halftime. Greensboro clawed its way back into the game and
tied it at 49-49 on a Lamont Watson layup with 12:52 remaining.
Ferrum scored the next seven points to take a 56-49 lead and never
looked back.
Junior forward
Jon Godsey (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) had an impressive
night, scoring 26 points and snaring 13 rebounds. Godsey was
9-for-18 from the floor and a perfect 8-8 from the line.
Junior center Cedric Jones (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) had 18 points
and eight boards, while senior guard

(Timberlake, N.C./Person) and senior forward
Keith Harris
(Ringgold, Va./Dan River) had 10 points each.
Greensboro (11-4, 2-1 USA South) got 17 points from Adam Nicholson,
15 points from Lynn Bright, and 13 points and eight rebounds from
George Greene. Ferrum (7-9, 1-2 USA South) shot
54% from the floor to Greensboro's 44%. The Panthers also won
the battle of the boards, 39-36.
Ferrum returns to action Saturday, Jan. 20, with a USA South
doubleheader at Christopher Newport University. The women tip
