Shaw Accepts Football Staff Position at Ferrum
Former Roanoke Steam Coach Joins Panther Gridiron Staff

FERRUM, VA – Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced that Pete Shaw has accepted a full-time assistant coach position with the Ferrum College football coaching staff.

A veteran grid coach, Shaw has worked at many different levels within the coaching profession.  He served as an assistant coach with the New Jersey Gladiators in 2002, and the New Jersey Red Dogs from 1997-98, both of the Arena Football League.  No stranger to football in Southwestern Virginia, Shaw served as Head Coach and Vice-President of the Roanoke Steam from 1999-2000, which competed in the Arena Football 2 League.

Shaw has coached at a number of colleges as well, including NCAA Division I University of Kentucky (1987-88), Division I-AA schools University of Tennessee at Martin (1999) and Western Kentucky University (1981-82), and Division II Kutztown University (1989-92).

Division III schools Shaw has coached at include Rowan University (1997-98), William Patterson University (1995-96), Iona College (1984), and the State University of New York at Cortland (1980).  Shaw has also worked with Ferrum for the past two seasons, assisting with defensive backs, receivers, and the Panther special teams unit.  He spent the past year employed as a Health & Physical Education teacher at Patrick Henry High School in nearby Roanoke.

Shaw earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Cortland State in 1981, then went on to earn a master's degree in Education in 1983 from Western Kentucky.

Ferrum opens the 2005 football campaign Sept. 3 at home against non-conference opponent Guilford College.  The Panthers open USA South Athletic Conference play Sept. 24 at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306
