Hunt Joins Ferrum Football Staff
Former NFL Lineman Named Assistant Coach

FERRUM, VA – Director of Athletics Abe Naff has announced that Robert Hunt has accepted a position as Assistant Football Coach at Ferrum College.

Hunt joins the Ferrum football coaching staff after having served a coaching internship in 2005 with the NFL Europe Amsterdam Admirals, helping the team win the 2005 World Bowl championship.  Previously, he coached football at Menchville High School in his hometown of Newport News, Virginia.  Hunt was a teacher in the Newport News Public School System from from 2003-05, and served as a substitute teacher there from 1999-2003.

A former professional football player, Hunt was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1999 National Football League draft.  He spent time with three other NFL teams; the New Orleans Saints, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills.  Hunt also played a season with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe.

Hunt played football four years at the University of Virginia from 1994-98.  An offensive lineman with the Cavaliers, Hunt earned All-Conference first team honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1998.  He also earned the 1998 Joe Palumbo Award, for his display of character, sportsmanship, and leadership.

Hunt received his bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Virginia in 1999.  He is a lifetime member of the National Alliance of Black School Educators, as well as a member of the NFL Retired Players Association.
