Ferrum Defeats Hood 5-4 in Women's Lacrosse
Perih Scores Game-Winner with 1:55 Left


FERRUM, Va.  – Sophomore Stephanie Perih (Centreville, Va./Paul VI) scored her second goal of the day with under two minutes remaining in regulation to give Ferrum College a 5-4 non-conference victory over Hood College.

Prior to the match, the College recognized senior Elizabeth Smith (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax).  Smith played four years with Ferrum's women's lacrosse team and four years with the women's soccer team.  She will graduate this May with her bachelor's degree.

The game was tied at halftime 2-2, but Hood scored a pair of goals to take a 4-2 lead with just over 17 minutes remaining in play.

Sophomore Kerry Toomey (
Arnold, Md./Broadneck) scored to bring the Panthers to within a goal, then freshman Sarah Kaye (Annandale, Va./Paul VI) evened the score at 4-4 with 5:25 left.  Toomey had a goal and an assist this afternoon, while Kaye had two goals.  Freshman GK Jana Rodriguez (Winchester, Va./James Wood) made four saves in net for the Panthers.

Laurie Burrier led Hood (3-6) with two goals and an assist.  Liz Rakowski and Annie Lavery each scored a goal for the Blazers.  GK Lauren Lieb made three saves in net for Hood.

Ferrum (3-8) closes out regular season action Sunday, April 9, at Presbyterian College.  The non-conference game is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Clinton, South Carolina.
