Panthers Sweep  Guilford in Softball

FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College swept Guilford College in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon at home, winning 8-0 and 5-2 during Senior Day.

Seniors Jenny Perdue (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County), Trica Moore (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox), and Kristina Wilhelm (Covington, Va./Alleghany) were all honored in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony for their contributions to the program the past four years.

     Game #1 Box Score:  Ferrum 8, Guilford 0
     Game #2 Box Score:  Ferrum 5, Guilford 2

In the first game, junior Kim Cox (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) pitched six innings for the shutout win.  She allowed just four hits, while striking out nine and walking none.  Cox also went 2-3 at the plate and scored a run.  Moore went 3-4 with three runs, two RBI, and two stolen bases.  Junior SS Katie Custis (Onancock, Va./Nandua) went 3-4 with two RBI.

In the second game, sophomore Kryestyn Matherly (Roxboro, N.C./Person) pitched four innings to get the win.  She allowed just one hit, struck out two, and walked none.  Junior Laura Terry (Willis Wharf, Va./Northampton) pitched the last three innings, allowing two hits, fanning two, and walking none.

Junior Lindsay Etherton (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) went 2-3 with a double, two RBI, and a run.  Freshman Lauren Rizzo (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth's) went 2-4 with a double and a run.  Ferrum completes its season at 23-21 with the doubleheader sweep.  Guilford closed out its season at 7-33.
