IMMEDIATE RELEASE FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Junior Stephen Brown (West Point, Va./West Point) has been named USA South Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for his play in two recent Ferrum matches. He went 3-0 overall, 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles. Brown helped Ferrum go 2-0 last week and keep its current winning streak alive at eight straight matches. The Panthers defeated Maryville College 5-2 and Emory & Henry College 5-1 on Saturday, March 25 in Maryville, Tennessee. Against Maryville, Brown defeated Matt Berra 6-4, 6-2 at #6 singles. He then teamed with freshman Jordan Bakos (Richmond, Va./James River) for an 8-1 win over Berra and Shin Arita at #3 doubles. Against Emory & Henry, Brown was a 10-2 winner over Neil Bishop. Although a junior, this is Brown's first season of collegiate tennis. He is 7-3 in singles and 6-3 in doubles, good for a 13-6 overall record this season. Brown is currently on a 6-match winning streak in singles, playing at the #6 spot. Ferrum (8-3, 2-0 USA South) plays next on Wednesday, March 29, when it travels to Danville, Virginia, for a USA South Athletic Conference match at Averett University. The Panthers will then entertain Christopher Newport University Saturday, April 1, in another USA South match. # # # |
