IMMEDIATE RELEASE Naff Honored for 600th Win Ferrum, Va. – Ferrum College picked up its third win in as many days over visiting Piedmont College, 6-4, this afternoon in non-conference baseball action. The Panthers also defeated Piedmont 9-1 and 3-2 yesterday. Prior to the game, the College honored Head Coach Abe Naff for winning his 600th career game, yesterday's 3-2 triumph over the Lions. With this afternoon's game, Naff now has a career record of 601-214-3 in 22 years at the helm of the Ferrum baseball program. Naff has the Panthers to the NCAA Division III playoffs nine times and won eight conference titles. On hand for the ceremony were Ferrum Vice President for Institutional Advancement Dr. Lee King, Naff's wife Terri, children Jessie & Casey, mother Angelia Naff, and mother-in-law Mary Jane Esperti. Naff was presented with the game ball and dugout scorecard from yesterday's game, and a plaque commemorating his 600th win. Additionally, King presented Terri Naff with a potted plant in recognition of her support of Coach Naff and the Ferrum baseball program. Official Box Score: Ferrum 6, Piedmont 4 Senior Travis Hundley (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) went 2-3 this afternoon with a triple, a sac fly, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Nick Baker (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) went 2-3 with a double, an RBI and a run. Senior Jesse Bowles (Boones Mill, Va./Franklin County) scattered seven hits over seven innings for the win. Bowles walked one and struck out six. Senior Randall Stevens (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) was credited with the save. Stevens pitched the last two innings in preserving the win. Piedmont was led by Travis Hunt, who went 2-4 with a stolen base and scored three runs. Trey McCay also went 2-4 and Evan Nissley went 2-5 with a stolen base. Matt Burgess was credited with the loss. He pitched six innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Ferrum improves to 17-6-1 with the win, while Piedmont falls to 13-11. Ferrum next faces Lynchburg College on the road March 28 at 3 p.m. # # # |
