IMMEDIATE RELEASE FERRUM, Va. – Freshman Mike Sampson (Wirtz, Va./Franklin County) has been named USA South Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week. Sampson helped Ferrum go 3-1 last week during the team's Spring Break trip to Orlando, Florida. Sampson went 4-3 overall last week, 2-2 in singles last week, and 2-1 in doubles. He is 4-4 in singles this season and 4-3 in doubles, for an 8-7 overall mark. He has played every singles match at either #1 or #2 singles and has played the majority of his doubles matches at the #1 spot. The Panthers opened the trip with a 7-0 loss to Monmouth College March 7, then posted three straight wins. Coach Gary Holden's squad beat Ferrum beat King's College 5-2 and Clark University 4-2 both on March 8, and Waynesburg College 7-2 on March 9.
