IMMEDIATE RELEASE in Women's Tennis Lord, Brown Win in Singles & Doubles Ferrum Va. – Ferrum College picked up a 7-2 win over visiting Salem College this afternoon, avenging an 8-1 loss February 18th. Box Score: Ferrum 7, Salem 2 Senior Val Lord (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and sophomore Tabitha Brown (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) won in both singles and doubles. Lord defeated Catherine Lottom 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 at #2 singles, and paired with Brown for an 8-1 win at #3 doubles over Megan Payne and Jinnie Cline. Brown defeated Cline 6-2, 6-0 at #4 singles. Sophomore Katie Porter (Marshall, Va./Notre Dame Academy) won 6-3, 6-1 over Payne at #3 singles. Ferrum improves to 2-1 this season with the win. Salem is now 6-3. Coach Rod Baker's team returns to action March 15 at USA South Athletic Conference opponent Greensboro College. The Panthers then host Peace College March 17, travel to Christopher Newport University March 18, host North Carolina Wesleyan College March 19, and host Mary Baldwin College March 20. Peace, Christopher Newport, and N.C. Wesleyan are USA South opponents. # # # |
