Ferrum Most Improved in '05 NCAA Div. III Men's Soccer
Panthers Go
From 0-16 in 2004 to 13-7 in 2005
INDIANAPOLIS,
In.
– The National
Collegiate Athletic Association statistical service has released its
2005 Division
III Men’s Soccer Most Improved Teams, and Ferrum College is listed as
the most improved team in the nation.
Under the leadership of second-year Head Coach John Faircloth, Ferrum
finished the 2005 campaign with a 13-7 overall record. The
improvement is officially recognized by the NCAA as an 11-game
turnaround. Ferrum struggled through a winless season in 2004,
closing at 0-16.
Ferrum finished two full games ahead of second place Medaille (N.Y.)
College, which improved from 8-10-2 in 2004 to 18-2-2 this season, for a
9-game improvement. Listed in third place is the College of New
Jersey, which went from 7-9-2 in 2004 to 16-3-1 this season, a 7.5-game
jump.
Ferrum finished
fifth in the USA South Athletic Conference this season at 2-4 against
league opponents. The Panthers had one player earn All-Conference,
freshman
Jack Collins (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown), who earned second team
honors.
A highlight to the season was on September 11 when the Panthers
were named co-champs at the Hood College Tournament in Frederick, Md.
