USA South Honors Ferrum Women During Silver Anniversary Celebration

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.
 –  The USA South Athletic Conference honored 10 former Ferrum College women student-athletes for their contributions to both Ferrum and the league.

The 2005-06 academic year marks the 25th anniversary of women’s athletics in the USA South.  Beginning in the fall of 1981, the USA South, then known as the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, incorporated and awarded women's championships in volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis.  Soccer was later added to the league's sponsored sports.  The USA South has selected Silver Anniversary Teams in these five sports.  Each member institution nominated deserving graduates from their respective institutions.

The league held a special ceremony in conjunction with the 2006 USA South Women's Basketball Tournament, Friday & Saturday, February 24-25, at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.  Five of the ten women being honored from Ferrum were in attendance, including Shannon Jost & Julie Shifflett (softball), Liz Adams (soccer), Tina McBride (basketball), and Hilary Wagar (tennis).  League Commissioner Rita Wiggs presided over the ceremony.

The 10 women listed below from Ferrum have been named to Silver Anniversary Teams.  Ferrum College and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics congratulates all 10 former student-athletes and their families for this wonderful honor.
