Ferrum Sweeps Shenandoah Again
Panthers Win Second Doubleheader Over Hornets

WINCHESTER, Va.  –  For the second time this season, Ferrum College picked up a doubleheader sweep over Shenandoah University in USA South Athletic Conference basketball action. 

Saturday, the Panther women opened the day with a 69-56 win over Shenandoah.  The Ferrum men then closed the day with an exciting come-from-behind win on a last second shot for a 67-66 win.

In the women's game, junior Quanita Bennett (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian Academy) had 17 points to lead the Panthers.  Junior Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) had 14 points o go with 14 rebounds.  Alzime needs just eight points to reach the 1000-point career scoring mark.  Senior Tawanna McCall (Bassett, Va./Bassett) added 13 points and eight rebounds in the win.

Ferrum (10-11, 6-5 USA South) returns to action Sunday, Feb. 12, when it travels to Newport News, Virginia, to take on USA South opponent Christopher Newport University at 2 p.m.  Shenandoah fell to 7-14 overall with the loss, 3-8 in the USA South.

In the men's game, junior Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person) led all scorers with 25 points.  Junior Keith Harris (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) drilled a three-point basket with one second remaining in regulation to give the Panthers the win.  Sophomore Cedric Jones (Lynchburg, Va./Gulf Coast CC) added 14 points and seven rebounds.

The win was Ferrum's second this season over Shenandoah, both times on late treys.  On January 22, Fuller hit a trey with eight second remaining for the win.  Ferrum (6-13, 2-8 USA South) will also play at Christopher Newport Feb. 12.  Shenandoah fell to 9-12 with the loss, 1-8 in league play.
