Football Players Nab All-State Honors
Mulford, Michaelsen, Ford First-Team Selections

FERRUM, Va. –
Five Ferrum College football players have been named to the 2005 All-State team, as voted upon by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.

Senior RB Terrell Mulford (North Garden, Va./Charlottesville), senior OL Brian Michaelsen (
Oxford, N.C./J.F. Webb), and sophomore DB Perry Ford (Albany, Ga./Monroe) were all named to the All-State first team.  All three earned All-Conference first teams honors in the USA South Athletic Conference this season.

2005 VaSID College Division All-State Football Team

Mulford became the first Ferrum running back to rush for over 1,000 yards since the 1989 season.  He finished the 2005 year with 1,079 yards and 15 touchdowns on 123 carries.  He averaged 8.8 yards per carry for the Panthers.  Mulford earned All-Conference second team honors a year ago.

Michaelsen anchored Ferrum's offensive line this season, helping the Panthers finish #1 in he nation in rushing offense at 361.4 yards per game.  Ferrum also finished 14th in scoring offense (39.9 ppg) and 15th in total offense (458.2 ypg).

Ford registered 71 tackles this season, broke up six passes, blocked four kicks and had a pair of interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown.  Ford also recovered a fumble.

Junior TE Chris Silk (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry), and junior P Matt Murphy (Salem, Va./Salem), have been named to the All-State second team.  Both players were USA South All-Conference first team selections this season.  Silk has been named to the league's first team for three year running.  He made 12 receptions for 293 yards (24.4 avg), seven of which he converted for scores.  Murphy averaged 38.8 yards per punt this season, dropping nine of his 34 punts inside the 20 yard line.

Ferrum shared the 2005 USA South football title this year and earned the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs.  It was Ferrum's fifth overall trip to the playoffs, but the first since 1990.  Coach Dave Davis, who was named the 2005 USA South Football Coach of the Year, led the Panthers to a 9-2 record this season, including a 6-1 mark against USA South opponents.
