Alzime, Laws Earn USA South Honors

FERRUM, Va. – Junior guard Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) and freshman guard Caprice Laws (Covington, Va./Covington) have been named Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the USA South Athletic Conference.

Both players scored in double figures last week in Ferrum's 109-95 win over Emory & Henry College Dec. 6th on the road.

Box Score:  Ferrum 109, Emory 7 Henry 95

Alzime had a game- and career-high 29 points in the win, and added 14 rebounds and five assists.  She was 8-17 from the floor and a perfect 13-13 from the line.  This is Alzime's first Player of the Week honor this season.  She was the 2004 USA South Rookie of the Year as a freshman and made the All-Conference first team last season.

Laws went 4-8 from the floor against Emory & Henry, scoring 11 points.  She also had five rebounds and dished out four assists.  This is Laws' second Rookie of the Week honor, having also earned the honor on Nov. 29.

Ferrum (4-4) will close out first-semester action Saturday, Dec. 17, at Oglethorpe University.  The non-conference game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia.  Ferrum will then be idle for the holiday break and will return to action Jan. 10 at home against Averett University.  Tip off is set for 7 p.m. that night as Ferrum opens USA South play.
