Ferrum Women Defeat Mary Baldwin 70-54

FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College overcame a one-point halftime deficit to pull out a 70-54 win over Mary Baldwin College in non-conference women's basketball action tonight at home.

Senior forward Tawanna McCall (Bassett, Va./Bassett) and sophomore center Ally Davenport (Baton Rouge, La./Runnels) each had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers.

Junior guard Shanita Bennett (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian Academy) had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals.  Junior guard Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary Baldwin led 27-26 at halftime and pushed the lead to 35-31 before Ferrum made its run.  With 16:13 showing on the clock, Alzime started what would become a 26-6 run for the Panthers.  A steal and lay-up by junior forward Beth Gardner (Monterey, Va./Highland County) put Ferrum up 57-41.

Jessica Carter led all scorers with 22 points and five steals for the Fighting Squirrels.  Lindsay Callison had 11 points, while Rayna Henry had eight points to go with 12 rebounds.  Mary Baldwin (1-3) also got eight points and seven rebounds from Christie Hamilton.

Ferrum (3-3) returns to action Friday, Dec. 2, with a home game against non-conference opponent Bridgewater College.  The Eagles improved to 3-2 with a 70-47 win tonight over Washington & Lee University on the road.  Tip-off Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
