Laws Named USA South Rookie of the Week

FERRUM, Va. – Freshman guard Caprice Laws (Covington, Va./Covington) has been named Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference.

In three games last week, Laws averaged 10.7 points and 4.7 rebounds as the Panthers went 1-2.

In a 64-54 loss to Roanoke College Nov. 22, Laws had 17 points and five rebounds.  She collected six points and seven rebounds in Ferrum's 67-49 loss to Piedmont College Nov. 26, then had nine points in an 88-61 win over LaGrange College Nov. 27.  The Piedmont and LaGrange games were played at the 2005 Methodist/InnKeeper Turkey Shootout in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Laws is averaging 10 points and four rebounds through Ferrum's first five games.  She is currently Ferrum's third leading scorer.  A two-sport student-athlete at Ferrum, Laws recently completed her first season with the College's volleyball team.

Also nominated for Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week were
Mary Porter of Greensboro College and Kristen Whitehurst of Methodist College.

Ferrum (2-3) returns to action this week with a pair of non-conference games at home.  On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Panthers host Mary Baldwin College (1-2).  Coach Bryan Harvey's team will then host Bridgewater College (1-2) Friday, Dec. 2.  Both games begin at 7 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
