Laws Named USA South Rookie of the Week
FERRUM, Va. – Freshman guard
Caprice Laws
(Covington, Va./Covington) has been named Women's Basketball Rookie
of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference.
In three games last week, Laws averaged 10.7 points and 4.7 rebounds as
the Panthers went 1-2.
In a 64-54 loss to Roanoke College Nov. 22, Laws had 17 points and five
rebounds. She collected six points and seven rebounds in Ferrum's
67-49 loss to Piedmont College Nov. 26, then had nine points in an 88-61
win over LaGrange College Nov. 27. The Piedmont and LaGrange games
were played at the 2005 Methodist/InnKeeper Turkey Shootout in
Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Laws is averaging 10 points and four rebounds through Ferrum's first
five games. She is currently Ferrum's third leading scorer.
A two-sport student-athlete at Ferrum, Laws recently completed her first
season with the College's volleyball team.
Also nominated for Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week were
Mary Porter of Greensboro College and Kristen Whitehurst of
Methodist College.
Ferrum (2-3) returns to action this week with a pair of
non-conference games at home. On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Panthers
host Mary Baldwin College (1-2). Coach Bryan Harvey's team will
then host Bridgewater College (1-2) Friday, Dec. 2. Both games
begin at 7 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
