Ferrum To Begin Offering Athletics Web Broadcasts

FERRUM, Va. -- the
Ferrum College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has partnered with Stretch Internet and Rocky Mount Communications to begin offering web broadcasts of selected sporting events.  Panther fans will be able to listen to selected sports contests live throughout the remainder of the 2005-06 academic year.  The current list of web broadcasts can be found at the link below.

Listeners need only download the free QuickTime Player (it’s already installed on almost every computer sold in the last three years) and they’re ready to listen to Ferrum games, press conferences or other events...live!

This program is being made possible this year through the generous sponsorship of Rocky Mount Communications, a Verizon Wireless and Dish Network authorized dealer located in nearby Rocky Mount, Virginia..

"This is a tremendous asset to our fans, friends and families," said Director of Athletics Abe Naff.  "We're so pleased to be able to offer this service and hope our great fans enjoy listening to coverage of Ferrum sports teams."

Stretch Internet streams its broadcasts at rates under 20 kilobits per second, which means that the audio is crystal clear, yet everyone can listen…from the user on the high-bandwidth DSL or cable connection to the user who dials in on a modem connection.  Fans should never encounter annoying buffering or “skipping” during their listening experience, and an unlimited number of listeners can tune in to our broadcasts without a sacrifice in quality.

Earlier this fall, Ferrum began its affiliation with Stretch Internet by joining eScores,
a free instant messaging service that allows fans to receive scores, news and other sports information.  Fans choose their sport(s) of interest, the type of messages they wish to receive (scores or headlines) and the format in which they wish to receive the information (e-mail or cell phone text message).

Please contact Ferrum Sports Information Director Gary Holden with questions or concerns at (540) 365-4306 by phone or gholden@ferrum.edu by e-mail.
