Golfers Place 6th at Virginia State Championship
Crawford Notches Top-10 Finish
RUTHER GLEN, Va. –
Ferrum College placed sixth at the
Virginia Division II-III State Golf Tournament held October 16-17 at the
par-72, 6937-yard Mataponni Springs Golf Club.

Washington & Lee University
won the Division III state title with a two-day total 625, followed by
Randolph-Macon College at 632 and Hampden-Sydney College at 640.
Christopher Newport University at 646 and Bridgewater College at 652
rounded out the top five teams. Ferrum and the Apprentice School
tied for sixth place at 671.
Junior
Adam Crawford (William, Va./Floyd County)
carded a 159 to lead the Panthers, finishing in a six-way tie for 10th
place Ferrum with a 10-over par 154 over the two-day event.
Freshman Frankie Smith (Lynchburg, Va./E.C.
Glass) was had a 166 to tie for 23rd place, while senior Just Vest
(Floyd, Va./Floyd County) and freshman
Andrew Stanley (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) tied for 36th with
matching scores of 173.
This is the second consecutive tournament in which Crawford was Ferrum's
low scorer. He shot a 154 and finished 38th at the
Greensboro Invitational held Oct. 10-11 at Meadowlands Golf Course in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Panthers will be idle for the remainder of the fall semester and
will return to action Mar. 5-7 when they host the Smith Mountain
Lake Invitational at Waterfront Country Club in Moneta, Virginia.
