Ferrum Lands Four on 2005 Football Gazette All-South Region Team
Tight End Chris Silk Named to Second Team

FERRUM, Va.  – The 2005 Don Hansen Football Gazette All-South Region Team was announced January 7th, and four Ferrum College football players have been named to the squad.

Junior TE Chris Silk (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) was named to the All-Region second team.  Silk made 12 receptions this season, seven of which he converted for touchdowns.  He had 293 receiving yards, averaging 24.4 yards per reception.  Silks was named to the USA South All-Conference first team this season, his third consecutive honor.

Senior RB Terrell Mulford (North Garden, Va./Charlottesville) was named to the All-region third team.  Mulford is Ferrum's first player to rush for over 1,000 yards since 1989.  He had 1,079 yards and 15 touchdowns on 123 carries, and averaged 8.8 yards per carry and 98.1 yards per game.  Mulford also returned 19 kickoffs for 401 yards, averaging 21.1 yards per return.  He led the team with 1,571 all-purpose yards, good for a 142.8 per game average.  Mulford was also named to the 2005 USA South All-Conference first team after having earned second-team honors a year ago.

Sophomore DB Perry Ford (Albany, Ga./Monroe) was also selected to the All-Region third team.  Ford registered 71 tackles, including 43 solo stops, and broke up six passes.  He made two interceptions for 128 yards, one of which he returned for a touchdown, blocked four kicks, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.  Ford was also a member of the USA South All-Conference first team this season.

Junior P Matt Murphy (Salem, Va./Salem) earned a spot on the All-Region honorable mention team.  Murphy led the USA South this season in punting with a 38.3 punting average.  He punted 34 times, with a long of 52 yards, dropping nine balls inside the 20 yard line.  Murphy was also a USA South All-Conference first team selection in 2005.

Ferrum finished 9-2 overall this season, sharing the USA South title and earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs.  It was Ferrum's fifth NCAA playoff appearance; the Panthers also qualified in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990.  Ferrum was this year's NCAA Division III statistical team rushing champion, averaging 361.4 yards per game.  2005 Ferrum Statistics
