Panthers Earn Doubleheader Sweep Over Shenandoah
Men Win 58-55 on Last Second Trey, Women Win 70-55

FERRUM, Va.  –  Ferrum College swept a basketball doubleheader over visiting USA South Athletic Conference rival Shenandoah University this afternoon at home.  The women opened with a 70-55 win, while the men took the nightcap 58-55.

In the men's game, junior guard Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person) drilled a three-point basket from the top of the key with 00:00.8 left in the game for the win.  Fuller closed out the game with nine points, three assists and a pair of steals.

Sophomore forward Jon Godsey (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) led Ferrum with 12 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor.  Freshman forward Trey Ray (Charleston, W.Va./Williams)
chipped in 10 points.

Shenandoah (8-6, 0-4 USA South) was led by Jeremiah Lawrence, who had 17 points on 8-14 shooting and 15 rebounds.  RaSon Alexander added 10 points for the Hornets.  Shenandoah shot 46 percent from the floor for the game, compared to Ferrum's 40 percent, and out-rebounded the Panthers  33-28.  The game was tied 28-28 at halftime.


Ferrum (5-13, 1-4) returns to action January 29 when it travels to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to face N.C. Wesleyan College in a USA South doubleheader.  Shenandoah returns to action January 25 with a non-conference game at home against Hood College.

In the women's game, junior guard
Charde Evans (Virginia Beach, Va./Coastal Christian) led Ferrum with 15 points on 5-9 shooting.  The Panthers got another solid game from junior guard Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge), who had 12 points and six rebounds.  Alzime is averaging 16.6 points and 9.8 rebounds through Ferrum's first 15 games.  Freshman guard Caprice Laws (Covington, Va./Covington) added nine points in this afternoon's win.

Ferrum (7-8, 3-2) controlled the boards, out-rebounding Shenandoah 52-34.  The Panthers shot 43 percent from the floor, compared to Shenandoah's 33 percent, and led 31-29 at the break.

Shenandoah (5-9, 2-3) was led by Stephanie Harrold and Cassie Womack, who each had 11 points, and Alicia Saunders, who had 10 points.  Womack just missed a double-double with nine rebounds.  The Hornet women next host Greensboro College January 28 in a USA South game.
