2004 Marine Mud Run Held in Salem Ferrum, Va. – Five members of the Ferrum College men's soccer team participated in the 2004 Annual Marine 5K Mud Run held Saturday, September 25th, at Green Hill Park in Salem, Virginia. Ferrum's "Dirty-5" included senior Matt Rhodes (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox), juniors Ryan Schilling (Moneta, Va./Cave Spring) and Ryan Mullen (Salem, Va./Glenvar), sophomore Wes Gelpi (Floyd, Va./Floyd County), and freshman Jacob Clark (Madison Heights, Va./Amherst County). See Pictures Here The Panthers placed 8th out of 127 total teams entered in this year's run, and 3rd of 19 teams in the "Men's Over 18" age division. The Marine Mud Run is a charity event aimed at raising funds for Camp Roanoke and the Marine Toys For Tots Foundation. The Ferrum College men's soccer program is led by first-year Head Coach John Faircloth, a United States Marine Corps veteran from 1987-93. Faircloth was called to active duty in late November of 1990, during his junior year at Ferrum, serving in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He returned to Ferrum in the fall of 1991 to complete work on his degree. Faircloth achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with the Marines. The Panthers are back in action this afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. road match at non-conference opponent Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia. Faircloth's squad will host Emory & Henry College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th, in another non-conference affair.
