Ferrum Picked to Finish 3rd in USA South Football
CNU Picked to Win League, Shenandoah Second

Ferrum, Va. – The 2004 USA South Athletic Conference football preseason poll has been released and Ferrum College is picked to finish third in the seven-member league.  In a vote of the league's head coaches, Christopher Newport University and Shenandoah University have been picked to finish first and second, respectively.

Rounding out this year's poll are Methodist College, Averett University, Greensboro College, and North Carolina Wesleyan College.  N.C. Wesleyan added football a year ago and will see the Battling Bishops play their inaugural season this fall.

Ferrum shared the first two USA South (then the Dixie Conference) football titles with CNU in 2001 and 2002.  Shenandoah and CNU shared the 2003 title.  The Captains claimed the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs all three years with head-to-head wins over Ferrum in 2001 and 2002, and a win over Shenandoah in 2003.

          Ferrum's 2004 Football Preseason Outlook

Ferrum opens its season Sept. 4 on the road, facing non-conference opponent Wesley College in Dover, Delaware. Coach Dave Davis' squad opens USA South play on Sept. 25 when it faces Shenandoah at home.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
