Venable Named Preseason
All-American
Senior DB Set to Lead Panther Defense

Venable (Covington, Va./Covington) has been named to the Don
Hansen's Football Gazette 2004 NCAA Division III Preseason
All-America Team as a first-team selection.

- Venable Career Honors
Venable was a Football Gazette All-America
third team selection in both 2003 and 2002. He also earned a spot
on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
All-America team as an honorable mention. Venable was the
2003 USA South Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year
and the 2002 Dixie Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Venable was the leading vote-getter at the
defensive back position in 2002 and 2003, earning All-Conference
first team honors both years. He was an All-Conference
second team DB as a freshman in 2001.
Ferrum closed out the 2003 season at 6-2 overall
and was third in the USA South at 4-2. The Panthers won
back-to-back conference titles in 2001 and 2002, sharing the
league's football title with Christopher Newport University both
times.
In the 2004
USA South Preseason Football Coaches Poll, Ferrum was picked
to finish third in the USA South this season. CNU is picked
to win it, followed by Shenandoah University. Those two
schools shared the 2003 league football title. Ferrum opens the 2004 season September 4th at non-conference
opponent Wesley College in Dover, Delaware. The Panthers
open USA South play September 25th, when they host
