Caputo Steps Down From Coaching Post

FERRUM, VA – Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Head Women's Volleyball Coach Kelly Caputo has resigned her position at Ferrum College, effective immediately, and plans to pursue other opportunities.

Caputo has been at the helm of the women’s volleyball program at the College for the past 16 seasons.  She led Ferrum to Dixie Conference Tournament runner-up finishes in 1992, 1995 and 1996.  She was named Dixie Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1990.

Ferrum players have earned 24 All-Conference and 53 Academic All-Conference honors under Caputo.  She has coached one All-American, Lora Hicks in 1991.

Caputo's 2004 volleyball team closed out the season at 6-24 overall and 1-13 in the USA South Athletic Conference.  Caputo's career coaching mark in 16 seasons is 229-267.  As assistant basketball coach, she helped lead Ferrum to the 1995 Dixie Conference Tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.  Ferrum won a share of the 2002-03 USA South regular season title.

A native of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Caputo earned her bachelor's degree from Ferrum in 1987.  She would later earn her master's degree from the University of Virginia.  A search to replace Caputo will begin immediately.   For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
