Ferrum Competes at NCAA Softball Regional
Panthers Take First Game from Mary
Baldwin, Then Fall to Salisbury & Moravian
SALISBURY, MD -- The Ferrum College softball
team competed at the
2005 NCAA Division Salisbury Regional May 13-14, winning one
game and dropping a pair.
The Panthers opened the tournament May 13 as the #4 seed, and
dispatched #5 Mary Baldwin College 6-1. Senior
Stacy Porter
(Radford, Va./Radford) went 2-4 with a double and two RBI.
Freshman Mary
Greenway (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) went 2-4 with two runs and
two stolen bases. Porter scattered four hits over seven
innings to get the complete-game win, striking out three and
walking three.
Later that day, Ferrum faced #1 Salisbury University and lost a
tough 1-0 game. Sophomore
Kim Cox (Gladys,
Va./William Campbell) pitched a complete seven-inning game.
She allowed just five hits, struck out two, and walked two.
Ferrum was held to just two hits in the game.
On May 14, Ferrum faced #2 Moravian College, and was eliminated
with a 6-3 loss. Greenway, senior
Wendy Hunt (Madison
Heights, Va./Amherst County) and junior
Jenny Perdue
(Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) each had a pair of hits for
the Panthers. Perdue had a two-run home run in the third
inning, while Hunt had a double in the fifth inning.

Moravian 6, Ferrum 3
Greenway and Perdue were both named to the
All-Tournament Team. Greenway closed out the season
50-51 in stolen bases. Ferrum closed out its season at
26-15. Host Salisbury won the regional and will play for the
national championship May 20-24 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
