Softball Sweeps Averett
Ferrum Wins USA South Doubleheader 4-2, 3-0
DANVILLE, VA -- The Ferrum College softball
team picked up a pair of USA South Athletic Conference wins this
afternoon, winning 4-2 and 3-0 over Averett University on the
road.

In the first game, senior
Jami Reed (Danville,
Va./Tunstall) went 2-3 with an RBI, a run, and a stolen base.
Freshman Mary
Greenway (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) went 2-4 with a run and a
stolen base.
Sophomore Kim Cox
(Gladys, Va./William Campbell) pitched a complete game,
scattering eight hits over seven innings and allowing only two
earned runs. She struck out two batters and walked one.
In the second game, freshman
Kryestyn
Matherly (Roxboro, N.C./Person County) tossed a complete-game
shutout. Matherly allowed just four hits over seven innings
of work, striking out five and walking none. Freshman
Krystal Ellis
(Altavista, Va./Rustburg) went 2-3 at the plate.
With the wins, Ferrum improves to 19-12 overall and 7-7 in the USA
South. Averett falls to 11-24, 4-10 in the USA South.
Ferrum plays again on April 12 at Lynchburg College in a
non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
