Women Netters Post First Win
Panthers Down N.C. Wesleyan 4-3
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Ferrum College women's tennis
team picked up its first win of the season on Monday, March 21,
registering a 4-3 USA South Athletic Conference victory over North
Carolina Wesleyan College on the road.

(Ocean City, N.J.//Ocean City) and freshman
Katie Porter
(Marshall, Va./Notre Dame Academy) defeated started things off
with an 8-1 win over Jenny Yi and Maquis DeGraffenreid at #2
doubles. Ferrum lost at #1 doubles, knotting the score at
1-1 heading into singles play. Both teams forfeited at #3
doubles.

Natallia Talmachova |
Lord defeated DeGraffenreid at #3 singles, while Porter took down
Yi at #4 singles, both winning in straight sets by scores of 6-0,
6-0. The Bishops won at #1 and #2 singles, tying the score
at 3-3. Senior

Humanis University) then defeated Vanessa Gore 6-2, 6-0 at #5
singles to give Ferrum the win.

Ferrum improves to 1-5 overall under first-year Head Coach Rod
Baker, and squares its USA South mark at 1-1. North Carolina
Wesleyan remains winless at 0-6, 0-4 in league play.
The Panthers play again on Wednesday, March 30, when they host
Mary Baldwin College at 3 p.m. In that match, they will be
looking to avenge a 6-3 loss to the Fighting Squirrels earlier in
