Ferrum Sweeps Doubleheader
Panthers Defeat Chowan 7-1,
3-1
FERRUM, VA –
The Panthers got off to a strong start in game one
of the Sunday afternoon doubleheader holding the Braves to just
one run in seven innings. At the plate the Panthers gave
sophomore pitcher Ryan Cooper plenty of support scoring in all but
one inning, winning the game 7-1.
The Panther offense were led
by seniors Kasey
Harmon (St. Cloud, Fla./St. Cloud), who went 1-2 with two
RBIs, and
Quincy Davenport (Bedford, Va./Liberty) who smacked two hits
in three at bats and scored two runs.
Sophomore
Brett
Thomas (Danville, Va./Geo. Washington) increased his hitting
streak to four games going 2-4 and scoring two runs.
Ryan Cooper
(Stuarts Draft, Va./Stuarts Draft) picked up his first win of
the season, pitching all seven innings, giving up just six hits
and no earned runs. Chowan (10-5-1) pitcher Mike Mianulli absorbed the loss.
Game 1 Box Score
In the nightcap, the Panthers found themselves down by a
run early in the game. Ferrum battled back in the third
inning, scoring two runs on four hits to take a 2-1 lead.
The Panthers scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth and
held on to defeat the Braves 3-1.
Ferrum was led by junior
Travis
Hundley (Ferrum, Va./Franklin Co.), who went 2-2 and scored two
runs, and freshman
Jesse Fuller (Richmond, Va./Varina), who went 2-3 with a double. Thomas
also went 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Senior
Zach Hammons
(Mathews, Va./Mathews) picked up the win and senior
Randell
Stevens (Waynesboro, Va./Wilson Memorial) picked up the
save by shutting down the Braves in the top of the seventh inning.

The Panthers
(7-5-1) will play again Tuesday, March 1, at home against Lynchburg College. Ferrum Head Coach Abe Naff is a Lynchburg graduate.
