Ferrum Sweeps NCW in USA South Hoop
Doubleheader
Men Win Big 104-87, Women 93-88, Both
on Road
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.
– The Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams posted USA
South Athletic Conference sweep on the road this afternoon over
North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. The
women opened with a 93-88 win, while the Panther men took the
nightcap 104-87.

This is the second 100-plus point game for the Ferrum men this
season. First-year Head Coach Scott Shepherd saw his team
post a 118-43 win over Roanoke Bible on December 4th, 2004.
Six players scored in double figures for Ferrum today, led by
freshman
Kenny Johnson (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls), who had 25
points and nine assists. Sophomore
Keith Harris
(Ringgold, Va./Dan River) had 16 points and seven rebounds,
and freshman
Rafael
Holland (Palmyra, Va./Fork Union) had 14 points.
Sophomore
Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person County) added 13 points
and seven assists, sophomore
Ken Holley
(Winston-Salem, N.C./No. Forsyth) had 12 points, and sophomore
Ed
Robinson (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox County) had 11 points.
Ferrum (7-17, 4-8 USA South) led 54-40 at halftime. N.C.
Wesleyan (8-16, 1-10) was led by Lenny Hall's 28 points.
Jarvis Cobb had 17 points, and Richard Carr and Ramone Spears had
14 each.
In the women's game, senior
Tara Toland
(North, S.C./North) led Ferrum with 31 points and 11 assists,
both game highs. Toland remains the NCAA Division III assist
leader with her 7.8 per game average. Sophomore
Aline
Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) continued her fine play,
notching 19 points and eight rebounds.
Senior
Angie
VonWergers (Albany, N.Y./Hudson Valley College) added 17
points and nine rebounds, while senior
Amber Triplett (Bassett, Va./Bassett) had 12 points.
Ferrum (13-11, 11-3 USA South) led 40-36 at halftime and held a
34-23 rebound advantage over the Bishops. N.C. Wesleyan
(7-15, 5-7) was led by Trenae Turner's 24 points. Kendra
Brewer had 19 points, Liz Ansley had 15, and Lawanda Scott had 13.
Ferrum's women and men will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 20, in
a non-conference doubleheader at Chowan College. The women
tip off at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m.
