Ferrum Women Rout Averett, 81-48
Triplett Scores 1000th Career Point

, Va.  – The Ferrum College women's basketball team picked up an 81-48 win over Averett University tonight at home in its final regular season game of the season.

Senior Amber Triplett (Bassett, Va./Bassett) scored her 1000th career point tonight.  She is the 13th member of Ferrum's 1000 Point Club.

Ferrum (11-11, 9-3 USA South) was led by sophomore Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) with 24 points and 12 rebounds.  Senior Angie VonWergers (Albany, N.Y./Hudson Valley College) added 15 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Brittany Kellam (Collinsville, Va./Magna Vista) and Triplett each had 10 points.
 
The Panther started the game hot, taking a 37-23 lead into halftime.  In the second period, things only got worse for the Cougars as Ferrum increased its lead by 30 points. Averett (9-12, 5-7) was led by Hanna Taylor with 23 points and nine rebounds.

Ferrum's women and men will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 19-20, Saturday at North Carolina Wesleyan College and Sunday at Chowan College.  Both doubleheaders will see the women tip off at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m.

The Ferrum women will host a USA South Tournament first round game next Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.
