Ferrum Sweeps Shenandoah in USA South Doubleheader
Men Outlast Hornets 69-65, Women Run Away 82-66

, Va.  – The Ferrum College men's and women's basketball teams swept Shenandoah University Hornets in USA South Athletic Conference play this afternoon at home.  The men won 69-65, while the women romped 82-66.

The men were led by sophomore Ken Holley (Winston-Salem, N.C./N. Forsyth), who made seven of 12 attempts from the field, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds as the Panthers topped the #2 team in the USA South.

Sophomore Keith Harris (Ringgold, Va./Dan River) chipped in with 14 points and sophomore Rob Fuller (Timberlake, N.C./Person Co.) also added 13 points in the win.  Point guard Kenny Johnson (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls) ran the offense for the Panthers with eight assists, while scoring eight points.
 
In the first half, the two teams battled for the lead with Ferrum (6-16, 3-7 USA South) taking a two point advantage into the locker room, 27-25.  In the second half the Panthers began to build a double digit lead, however Shenandoah (13-9, 5-4) narrowed it to just four points with only seconds to go.  The Panthers were able stop the Hornets from scoring in the final seconds to win the game 69-65.  The Hornets were led by Jeremiah Lawrence with 17 points and 15 rebounds.

In the earlier game, the women got off to a slow start taking just a one point advantage into the locker room at 31-30.  The Panthers pulled away quickly, courtesy of a 17-0 run to open the second half.

Ferrum (10-11, 8-3) was led by sophomore Aline Alzime (Leesburg
, Va./Stonebridge), who scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.  Freshman Brittany Kellam (Collinsville, Va./Magna Vista) added 15 points, while the Panthers' assist machine senior Tara Toland (North, S.C./North) had six assists to go along with her 14 points.  Shenandoah (5-15, 2-9) was led Casey Womack, who scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds.  Alicia Sanders added 15 points and Netagia Foreman had 12 points.
