Ferrum Athletes Earn All-Conference in Women's Soccer, Volleyball

Four Women's Soccer Players Headline Ferrum Honors

Ferrum, Va. – Ferrum College had four women's soccer players and a volleyball player named to this year's USA South All-Conference teams.

Headlining the group is freshman Cara Kolina (Staten Island, N.Y. St Joesph's By the Sea), who made the 2004 USA South Women's Soccer All Conference first team as a midfielder.  Kolina leads Ferrum this season in points (25), goals (10), and game-winning goals (2). 

Joining Kolina on the women's soccer All-Conference team was sophomore Leah Austin (Boones Mill, Va./Franklin County), who earned second-team honors.  Austin has eight goals and five assists this year for 21 points.

Senior forward Jenn Phillips (Ferrum, Va./Franklin County) and freshman Corinne Musanti (
Staten Island, N.Y./St. John Villa) were named to the honorable mention squad.

Ferrum is 6-10-2 thus far and has earned a berth in the USA South Tournament semifinal round Friday, Nov. 5th, where they will face top-seeded Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.  Ferrum, the #5 seed, upended #4 North Carolina Wesleyan College in the quarterfinals, 2-1 on the road Nov. 2nd.  The Bishops had beaten Ferrum 4-0 in the regular season.

In volleyball, freshman Mindy Altice (Wirtz, Va./Franklin County) was named to the All-Conference Volleyball Team as an honorable mention.  The Panther volleyball team takes a 6-23 record into the quarterfinal round of the USA South Tournament.  Ferrum, the #8 seed, faces top-seeded Christopher Newport in the quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 5th, at 11:30 a.m. in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
