Toland Nation's Top-Ranked Player in
Assists
Ferrum, Va.
– Ferrum College women's basketball player
Tara Toland
is currently the nation's top-ranked player in assists per
game among all NCAA Division III institutions.
Toland is averaging 7.5 assists this year for Ferrum, dishing out
113 assists in 15 games. A senior from North, South
Carolina, Toland prepped at North High School. She was named
USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week Jan. 25 after
averaging 19.5 points, 8.5, six assists, and four steals per game
over a two-game stretch.
Toland made the 2003 USA South All-Conference first team, and the
2004 All-Conference second team. She was a member of
Ferrum's 2003 team that won a share of the USA South regular
season title. Toland scored her 1000th career point in
Ferrum's 2004-05 season-opener back in November.
The Panther women are currently 6-9 overall, and are tied
for first place in the USA South Athletic Conference at 5-1 in
league play. Toland leads Ferrum this season in scoring
(18.3 ppg), assists (7.5), and steals (4.0 spg).
The #2-ranked assist leader thus far, sophomore guard Symbri
Tuttle of McMurry University, is averaging 7.1 assists through 16
games. Mandy Pearson of Concordia College - Morehead is
third with a 6.9 average in 13 games.
Toland and the Ferrum women are back in action this weekend,
hosting Chowan College Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. and North
Carolina Wesleyan College, Sunday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. For
