Toland, Johnson Earn USA South Honors
Ferrum, Va.

Tara Toland (North, S.C./North) and freshman
Kenny Johnson (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver Falls)
have been named USA South Women's Basketball Player of the Week
and Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their
play in last week's Ferrum College basketball action.
Toland helped the Ferrum women go 1-1 last week with an 83-47 win
over Greensboro College Jan. 18 at home, and an 88-81 loss to
Christopher Newport University Jan. 22 on the road. She
averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, six assists, and four steals
in the two games. Also nominated for the award were Kimberly
High of North Carolina Wesleyan College, Candace Bryant of
Christopher Newport, and Shameeka Wansley or Methodist College.
Toland is averaging 18.3 points and 7.5 assists per game this
season. She is currently the nation's top-ranked player in
assists per game. The Ferrum women are currently 6-9
overall, 5-1 in the USA South.
Johnson helped the Ferrum men go 2-0 last week. He had 20
points and nine assists in a 66-64 victory over Greensboro Jan. 18
at home, and 25 points and eight assists in a 73-60 victory over
Christopher Newport Jan. 22 on the road. This is Johnson's
second Rookie of the Week award, having earned it on Jan. 4th as
well.
Johnson leads Ferrum in both scoring (16.7 ppg) and assists (5.1
apg) this season. The Panthers are currently 5-11 overall
