Ferrum, Va.  – Ferrum College's Aline Alzime (Leesburg, Va./Stonebridge) and Brittany Kellam (Collinsville, Va./Magna Vista) have been named USA South Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.  Kellam and Alzime helped the Panthers to a pair of big wins last week, an 86-56 home win over Peace College on January 12 and a 77-50 home win over Methodist College on January 15.

Alzime had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Peace.  She then had 15 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists in the win over Methodist.  Alzime, last season's USA South Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, is averaging 14 points and 11.2 rebounds this season for Ferrum (5-8, 4-0 USA South).

Kellam had 14 points in the win over Peace, then had 22 points in the win over Methodist.  She started both games for Ferrum, her first two career starts.  Kellam is averaging 6.8 points per game for Ferrum this season, in just over 17 minutes per game.

On January 18, Ferrum won it's third consecutive USA South game, an 83-47 blowout over conference  leader Greensboro College at home.  Alzime had 16 points and six rebounds, while Kellam had 18 points, including four three-point baskets.

The Panthers will be back in action Jan. 22 at Christopher Newport University for a 2 p.m. game.  Coach Donna Doonan's team will then be at Shenandoah University January 26 at 5:30 p.m.  Both games are part of USA South doubleheaders and will see the men's games follow the women's.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office.
