Daren Venable Career Honors

Venable was a Football Gazette All-America third team selection last year, and was named to the  All-Region first team.  He was the Dixie Conference's 2002 Defensive Player of the Year after registering a team-high 99 tackles, including 38 solo and seven for loss.  Venable made four interceptions for 52 yards, blocked a punt which resulted in a Ferrum safety and blocked an extra point attempt.

Venable was a first team All-Conference selection in the Dixie Conference in 2002, as the leading vote-getter at the defensive back position.  His Defensive Player of the Year award was Ferrum's second in three years.  Former standout Tone' Dancy earned the honor in 2000.  In two years at Ferrum, Venable has registered 185 tackles, including 73 solo stops and 14 for loss, five interceptions, two pass breakups, two blocked kicks and a safety.

Ferrum closed out the 2002 season at 5-5 overall, winning a share of the Dixie football title at 5-1 in league play.  It was Ferrum's second straight Dixie football co-championship.  The Panthers open the 2002 season on Sept. 6 with a non-conference game at home against Wesley College.

Ferrum will vie for this year's USA South Athletic Conference football title.  The Dixie Conference officially adopted the name change in June of 2003.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum sports information office at (540) 365-4306.
