Panthers Sweep Cougars In Softball
- Ferrum Takes Two Extra Inning Thrillers

- Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College women's
softball team swept a USA South Athletic Conference double-header
from visiting Averett this afternoon in thrilling fashion.
Both games went into extra innings with the Panthers pushing the
winning run across in the bottom of the eighth inning.

- In game one, senior third baseman Lindsay
Cox (Waldorf, Md./LaPlata), pictured, drilled a bases-loaded single
to score freshman Seajay
Hogan (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) and give Ferrum the 3-2
victory.

- Game two's heroics went to junior designated hitter Stacey
Porter (Radford, Va./Radford) as she singled in sophomore
center fielder Jenny
Perdue (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) for a 2-1 Panther win.

- Porter picked up the win in game one pitching all
eight innings. She allowed two runs on seven hits while
striking out seven. Freshman Kim
Cox (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) went the distance in game two
allowing one run (unearned) on three hits to notch the win.

- With the win, Ferrum improves to 24-13 overall and
10-6 in the USA South. Averett is now 16-16, 8-4. The
Panthers return to action at the USA South Conference Tournament in
Raleigh, N.C., April 16-18.
