Panthers Sweep Cougars In Softball
Ferrum Takes Two Extra Inning Thrillers

Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College women's softball team swept a USA South Athletic Conference double-header from visiting Averett this afternoon in thrilling fashion.  Both games went into extra innings with the Panthers pushing the winning run across in the bottom of the eighth inning.

In game one, senior third baseman Lindsay Cox (Waldorf, Md./LaPlata), pictured, drilled a bases-loaded single to score freshman Seajay Hogan (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) and give Ferrum the 3-2 victory.

Game two's heroics went to junior designated hitter Stacey Porter (Radford, Va./Radford) as she singled in  sophomore center fielder Jenny Perdue (Glade Hill, Va./Franklin County) for a 2-1 Panther win.

Porter picked up the win in game one pitching all eight innings.  She allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.  Freshman Kim Cox (Gladys, Va./William Campbell) went the distance in game two allowing one run (unearned) on three hits to notch the win.

With the win, Ferrum improves to 24-13 overall and 10-6 in the USA South.  Averett is now 16-16, 8-4.  The Panthers return to action at the USA South Conference Tournament in Raleigh, N.C., April 16-18.
