Zakkak Named USA South Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Sophomore Earns Third Honor This Season
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Ferrum College men's tennis standout Gabe Zakkak (Midland, Va./Liberty) has been named USA South Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his play in last week's action.

Zakkak went 3-1 in singles last week, en route to winning the "A" Draw title at the 2004 Bud Skeens Memorial Tournament held April 3 on Ferrum's campus.  His lone loss was to Hampden-Sydney College's Patrick Gee in a dual Friday, April 1.  Zakkak avenged the loss in the title match at the tournament the following day.  Zakkak also went 2-0 in doubles last week, claiming the "A" Draw title at the Bud Skeens Memorial Tournament with doubles partner freshman Walter Basten (Lynchburg, Va./New Vistas).

This is Zakkak's third USA South Player of the Week honor.  He also earned the award on March 9 and March 15.  Zakkak is 19-5 in singles, 17-3 in doubles, and 36-8 overall this season.  As a freshman, he racked up an impressing 22-5 singles record, all at #1 singles, and was named 2003 Dixie Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year.
 
Ferrum is currently 15-2 overall in men's tennis and 4-1 in the USA South.  The Panthers are on an 11-match win streak with two regular season matches remaining, April 7 at Methodist College and April 13 at home against Randolph-Macon College.
