Ferrum Picks Up 6-3 Baseball Win over Piedmont
Peace, Griffin Each Home to Lead Panthers
 
Ferrum, Va. -- Senior outfielder Ricky Peace (Hopewell, Va./Hopewell) and senior catcher Kevin Griffin (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) each homered to lead Ferrum College to a 6-3 win over visiting Piedmont College in non-conference baseball action this afternoon in Ferrum.

Peace, pictured above left, went 2-3 with a double, a homer, and three runs.  Griffin, above right, went 2-3 with a home run.  Both home runs were solo shots in the first inning.
 
Senior Thomas Meeks (Rocky Mount, Va./Franklin County) picked up his first win this year on the mound, pitching seven innings.  Meeks allowed four hits, struck out eight and walked six.  Meeks also went 1-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored.  Freshman Casey Davenport (Bedford, Va./Liberty) was credited with the save, pitching two innings in relief.  Davenport allowed no hits, walked one and fanned two.
 
Ferrum improves to 11-4 overall with the win, while Piedmont falls to 4-5.  The Panthers are scheduled to play a non-conference game at Bridgewater College on Wednesday, March 10, at 2 p.m.  For more information, please contact the Ferrum College Sports Information Office at (540) 365-4306.
